So, you encountered me at your local Renaissance Faire and you bought one of my products! Huzzah! While you were there, I was able to help you get it in your hair and you left my booth looking ✨ fabulous ✨
But now you are home and wish to recreate that fabulous look, but can't quite remember how I did it 😩
That's where this lovely little blog posts comes in handy! I have compiled a list of my favorite hair styling tutorials to help you achieve the ✨ look ✨ of your dreams. Read on!
Hair Sticks and Single Hair Swords
I was always super jealous of the girls in high school who could put their hair up using just a pencil, not realizing that there is, in fact, a technique required to make it work. But once I figured it out, I have never really gone back to heavy claw clips.
Hair sticks (or pins or bodkins or a dozen other names) have been around basically forever -- they are the ancient worlds version of our go-to claw clips. They work best with long hair, but I PROMISE they work with short hair too. Just remember that the key is to always grab the hair at your scalp -- that is the hair that will support the entire look.
This is my favorite tutorial:
@melodyyaslan Crazy to think ancient women had thousands of ways to pin, twist, and knot their hair… and somehow we ended up with claw clips and elastics… Thank you @Mo Styles for the inspiration behind this dialogue - her tutorials changed the way I see tutorials 😍💗 Would you like more ancient hairstyles like this? 💬💗 #naturalhairstyle #hairpin #chinesehairpin #pov #ancientbeauty ♬ original sound - Melody |Ancient Beauty Secrets
See? Super easy!
Similarly, there is this method, called a French twist:
@alysialoo Replying to @fairy :) slow mo tutorial! just using a chopstick, i have to tuck my ends in bc my hair is longer. but you should be able to twist and secure with shorter hair🥢 #hairtutorial ♬ Obsessed - jinxknsaudios
If you need more, searching "Hair Stick Tutorial" on Tiktok will yeild MANY results.
But the question I get the most is "will this work on short hair?" And my answer is always "yes!" Here are some examples:

These all will work with the single hair swords as well! But what about the doubles? Let's talk about those next.
Double Hair Swords
Not going to lie, I couldn't find a tutorial for the way that I prefer to do the double hair swords, so I'm just going to walk you through it verbally first and then show you a video that is slightly different from my preferred method but still works.
First, you're going to make a bun. You can also cheat this with a hair tie.
Once you have a bun, you will take one of the swords and stick it in you hair at the base of your scalp. Then weave the sword UP into the bun, then back down into the hair at the base of your scalp, like you're sewing.
You will do the same exact thing on the other side - scalp bun, scalp. Once the swords are in place, you can drape the chains over the bun.
Makes sense?
Here's a video for my more visual learners:

Hair Combs
There are many, many ways to style hair combs. You can use them by themselves, or as accents in existing hairstyles. Here are some videos:
